What happens in a support session?

Support sessions are about an hour long and usually take place at one of our offices in Harrogate, Scarborough, Northallerton, Skipton and Selby. Recovery workers can sometimes offer appointments at other venues if, for instance, you struggle to travel to an office. You will agree where and how often to meet during your first support session. This is when you will also create a recovery plan using the goals from your assessment. The recovery plan will outline how you will be helped, the names of the people helping you including professionals, friends or family members, and how long this may take.

Support sessions give you a safe space to talk. You will not be judged, and what you say is not shared with friends or family without your consent. Many of our recovery workers have their own experience of addiction, so they know how it feels to struggle with drug or alcohol use. They will listen and allow you to offload your worries. They will then explore healthy ways to manage these worries and guide you through exercises that might help. A big part of support sessions is keeping track of drink or drug use, so they will ask you to record this use outside of sessions.
