Do I need to seek help?

If you are reading this, then that’s the first sign you may need help. People go through different phases when seeking to change their drink and drug use. This is explained by the Cycle of Change which we often discuss in support sessions. As part of this process, people prepare to change by, for instance, gathering information from websites to better understand how change may happen.

Not everybody needs to attend a treatment service, though. For mild to moderate drink and drug use, you may need to simply think more carefully about how you are managing this part of your life. Learning more about the potential risks and perhaps having a brief conversation with a doctor, nurse, or another professional, is often enough for people to make the changes they need. People with more severe addictions, however, are likely to benefit from attending treatment.

This may apply to you if you find that your drink or drug use is taking over your life, your relationships are suffering, you are behaving out of character and in ways you later regret, and if these problems continue even when you try to behave differently. We can help people who find themselves in these situations. If this is you, or might be you, then you can get support by phoning or emailing our service or by completing our online referral form.
