Safer drink and drug use (harm reduction)
Everyone who drinks or uses drugs can learn to use these substances more safely, whether you are trying to stop or not. Harm reduction, as an idea, first emerged in the 1980s to reduce the spread of HIV among people who injected drugs. Now there is harm reduction support for everyone who drinks or uses any drug. We supply clean, sterile needles to people who inject, and naloxone to prevent overdoses, but also advice on using crack pipes, snorting cocaine, popping pills and smoking cannabis. For alcohol, we’ll explain how to protect your stomach lining, stay hydrated, avoid vulnerable situations and even manage social media (to avoid drunken posting you’ll regret the next day).
We know this advice can benefit everyone – those seeking help or not, as well as their friends and family. That’s way we created the website Drink Drug Hub for anyone to easily find harm reduction information. You can even attend free online information sessions which run online every month.
