Drug and Alcohol Worker
Contract type: Full time Salary: £25,110 - £32,090
About the Role
The Open Access and Engagement Worker will be an integral member of the dynamic multi-agency team providing harm reduction advice, needle exchange provision, crisis case management, Single Point of contact cover and developing and delivering comprehensive and tailored individual interventions that will include delivery of a full range of open access, structured, one to one and group support.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with appropriate partners and stakeholders within office based, community and outreach settings.
What You’ll Do
- Work in partnership to carry out assessments and deliver drug and alcohol recovery interventions to enable individual service user progression from engagement, through structured treatment to sustained recovery.
- Manage an agreed service user caseload, reviewing on-going care and treatment and liaising closely with the full range of partners, as well as family members and significant others when appropriate.
- Facilitate service user access to treatment, assets and resources to increase recovery capital, supporting service users and their loved ones to achieve and sustain recovery goals.
- Ensure service users are informed about their options and opportunities, encouraging active engagement and ownership of individual recovery.
- Support service users across all stages of custody including transition planning for transfer or release.
- Work in collaboration with Recovery Co-ordinators to ensure effective access to appropriate recovery interventions in accordance with agreed recovery plans and individual need/priorities.
- Deliver quality psychosocial interventions (as/when required) that meet local need on a one to one basis.
To Succeed in This Role, You’ll Need:
- A Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Ability to carry out assessment and contribute to recovery and risk management plans.
- Experience of delivering 1-1 and group interventions.
- Ability to work with people with multiple needs and those who are vulnerable.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing people who misuse substances.
- Understanding of safeguarding issues for children and vulnerable adults.
- Experience of keeping effective records including documenting relevant information onto a management information system.

Youth Justice and Drug and Alcohol Practitioner

About the Role

North Yorkshire RISE is a specialist young people’s drug and alcohol service. Commissioned by North Yorkshire Council, NY RISE works with young people across North Yorkshire aged 10-19 and up to 24 with SEND who need specialist support around drug and alcohol use.
The position of Youth Justice Drug and Alcohol Practitioner will work within North Yorkshire Council’s Youth Justice Team.
The core focus of this job is to ensure that all young people supervised by the Youth Justice Service (YJS) are assessed and treated for drug and alcohol usage with the aim of minimising harm to them and preventing and reducing offending. The postholder will do this through the provision of advice, guidance and support to members of staff within the YJS team.
What You’ll Do
- You will provide specialist drug and alcohol support to children and young people at risk of or using substances, enabling them to make informed choices and build resilience to substance use.
- Undertake assessments of children and young people supervised by the YJS.
- To have a commitment to shared values and the common purpose of developing a culture of interagency working; including statutory bodies, third and private sector organisations.
- To ensure that strategic visions are translated into local plans in collaboration with professionals, partners and people using the service.
- This role involves spoken communications so a confident use of English language is required.
To Succeed in This Role, You’ll Need:
- A Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care.
- Strong IT skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience of working with children, young people and/or families.
- Experience of undertaking comprehensive assessments.
- Experience of delivering 1-2-1 and group therapeutic interventions.
- Driving licence essential for this role.
