John Bailey from Skipton talks about the Breaking Free app
So, John, tell us about the Breaking Free app!
“The app highlights how much you have used. If you use four times in one week and use less the week after, the app lets you know. It warns you when you’re too close. It can warn you from a good distance away from the area of concern. It can warn you when you’re around 100m away or even if you’re going in that direction.
Do you use it at home?
“I set it all up at home, using the wifi, on my computer. When you use it outside, you do need some amount of data. So, if the smart phone is half decent, it can be used to its full benefit. But you do need to know how to use smart phones and apps.”
How has it helped you?
“The app’s helped me to stay away from the area where I score from. I can’t lie to myself, so I put the exact data in to the phone to say when I used and how much and this helped me question myself later – I ask myself why I used that much the previous week.”
Would you recommend it and why?
“Yes, I would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about quitting. There is a sense of accomplishment when you can see the progress on the app. I suggest that NYH help to set up the app for people and then follow this up with them on a regular basis to see their progress.”
