National Awards salute MILSmart programme
The MILSmart project was shortlisted for the Military and Civilian Health Partnership Award at the 2020 HSJ Awards.
MILSmart is a unique project aimed at supporting military personnel with addictive thinking issues that may be impactful on their life. The collaboration of Humankind, UK Smart
Recovery and the British Army have together developed this project to support serving personnel In the Catterick Garrison area.
This year the HSJ Awards were broadcast via Zoom on 17th March. The MILSmart team’s presentation concentrated on real life voices from veterans and serving personnel helped by the project. In a closely fought competition, they just missed out on winning the award, but were commended by the judges for their work.
Craig Bosomworth, Lead Practitioner at North Yorkshire Horizons said “The team worked really hard on our presentation, and we were proud of what we achieved. Unfortunately, we weren’t successful in scooping the top prize but to get shortlisted was a result in itself.
“The continued success of the programme is all about the dedication of our staff and the commitment to succeed by those members who join the project. The willingness of individuals to provide video support to our competition application proves we’re getting things right.”
The project uses integrated care to provide a wide range of interventions including mutual aid, psychosocial interventions, and clinical assessment tools to give wrap around care. The project aims to expand provision to tri services and outside of Catterick by 2021.
